Description of the Christian 8-h heartwarming shore excursion Athens and Corinth
Athens
Get ready to embark on an unforgettable Christian journey as we explore ancient Athens and Corinth. Our day will kick off bright and early in Athens, where we’ll delve into the city’s rich history through a comprehensive tour.
Visit the holly rock of the Acropolis with its temples and the Mars hill!
Witness the awe-inspiring Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the grand Parliament House at Constitution Square (Syntagma Square).
We’ll also make a stop at the iconic Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896. Prepare to be amazed by the striking “Neoclassical Trilogy” of buildings, including the Academy, University, and National Library of Athens.
Later, the tour will take you to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch, before heading towards the most important monument in the city, the famous Acropolis of Athens.
The crown of the Holy Rock is of course the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Mars Hill (Areopagus) (Acts 17:22) where Apostle Paul came to preach the word of the Christian religion to the Athenians.
Athens Ancient Agora
After the visit to the Acropolis, the tour will take you to Plaka, a picturesque small quarter of Athens where St Paul preached and met his followers at the Ancient Agora.
St Paul spent almost his entire day in the agora, meeting people, exchanging ideas, and discussing the new religion.
It is a very important part of the city, and quite significant for the stay of St Paul in Greece and Athens.
During the full-day private shore excursion, you will also have time to visit the Lycabettus Hill that offers magnificent views of the entire city of Athens.
Later on, you will enjoy a nice Greek lunch , and you will head towards the important city of Corinth.
Corinth
Driving along the coastal road of Athens and Attica you will reach the Corinth Canal, after almost an hour’s drive and you will enjoy a short stop to take some gorgeous pictures of the amazing views.
Shortly afterward you will reach Ancient Corinth, one of the most important city-states of ancient Greece and definitely one of the most important parts of St Paul’s journey in Greece.
In Ancient Corinth Apostle Paul spent 18 months, preaching to the Jews and Gentiles. The site is overlooked by the Acropolis housing the remains of the Temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love.
In Corinth, St. Paul worked with Aquila and Priscilla. He founded a community here that caused him much grief and prompted him to write at least four letters. St. Paul’s trial by Gallio took place in the agora (Acts 18:12-17).
It is from Corinth, also, that St. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians. We celebrate our liturgy today in Corinth with a reflection on Paul the Missionary.
Free time for luch and experience the Greek gastronomy!
As you step foot in ancient Corinth, you will dive into a journey through time, from the bustling agora and the majestic Temple of Apollo, to the sacred temple of Aphrodite, the Corinth museum, and the storied house of Akila and Priskilla.
The ruins of their humble abode now stand as the foundation for Paul’s church, a testament to the enduring impact of their legacy. What’s more, this historic city is renowned for the significant church that St. Paul himself established before venturing on to Ephesus.
The private full-day Christian shore excursion will end late in the afternoon bringing you back to Athens via the same route.
