Some mythology…
Here, I wanted to provide you with some information regarding the myth surrounding the Erectheum in Athens. According to the myth, the goddess Athena and the god Poseidon held a competition to determine who would be the patron deity of the town. Poseidon thrust his trident into the ground, causing water to burst forth. Athena, on the other hand, touched the ground with her spear and an olive tree grew. As a result, Athena was named the goddess of the metropolis.
The Erectheum itself is an architectural wonder, featuring the sleek porch of the Caryatids, which showcases replica columns of marble maidens supporting the temple’s roof. All temples on the Acropolis, including the Erectheum, are dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens. It is considered Greece’s largest and most remarkable temple from the 5th century BC.
During our visit, we will be exploring the renowned Temple of Olympian Zeus, which is the largest Corinthian-style temple in ancient Greece, dating back to the 3rd century BC. Additionally, we will be passing by Hadrian’s Arch, a symbolic landmark that separates the old and new towns during the Roman era.
Our sightseeing itinerary also includes visits to the National Gardens, National Library, Parliament Building, ex-Royal Palace, Plaka, Roman Agora, Monastiraki, and the Temple of Vulcan.
As we make our way, there will be a brief photo opportunity at the ancient Olympic Stadium, originally built in the 4th century BC and rebuilt in 1894 to host the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. This stadium, made entirely of Pentelic marble, is of significant historical importance and is still used today for special events such as the finish of the marathon and archery competitions, including its usage during the 2004 Olympic Games.
The market
Let’s see the meat market, the fish market and the fruit market in Athens. Some small stores selling solely meat, fish or fruit.

Corinth
In no time, we will get to the ancient city of Corinth, one of the most important cities in history renown for its “ill manners.” The richest town in Greece, ancient Corinth was erected at the foot of the celebrated Acrocorinth Hill (575 meters above sea level) which served as a strong acropolis or citadel in prehistoric times.
Corinth is still visible on public buildings today and originates from there (Callimachus, 5th century BC). The long and very interesting ancient history of Corinth included St. Paul’s time (52 AD), who visited twice and established the Church of Corinth.
These are the featured venues of this tour; Temple of Apollo (6th C.B.C), Fountain of Glauke, Spring of Periander and Lechaion Road, a beautifully paved 8 m | 25-foot approx remains, the oldest Greek Doric temple dedicated to this god.
While here, it’s worth visiting the Corinth Museum that has some amazing artifacts discovered in the ruins of ancient city. Some antiquities like Roman mosaics, and so on are available at the museum.
To wrap up this one of Greece’s most fascinating private shore excursions, make sure you are back in time for lunch.
